June Update

OK so I missed a blog in May - My resolution to Blog more has failed!!

As I sit in the garden enjoying the sunshine I am trying to prioritise what to write about.

New to Knits in the City - Knit Pro Symfonie Needles See website for range of products available. www.knitsinthecity.co.uk A truly great product. The finish is just luxury and knitting with them is lovely.

Business has been good - not great - but good - I love making summer garments but maybe some people prefer to knit during the winter months............. I am working on a cricket sweater from the Debbie Bliss Magazine at the moment. Perfect for our summer months where it can still get a bit chilly in the evenings.It is coming along beautifully. I havent used the Amalfi yarn before so decided to give it a try. I would describe it as a loose cotton as in the yarn is loosly spun. You do have to be careful when knitting with it but the result is fabulous. Would definitely use it again.

I have recently finished the Hawthorne bag from Louisa Harding Little Cake. Cardoon from the Rowan Purelife Collection and the Olivia Tank Top from Noro Catwalk. Havent got pics of the finished garments as there is nobody to take any pics of me at the moment.The bag turned out really well and I enjoyed making it. The Cardoon Looks great in real life but was a bit boring to knit. The Tank top was quick and easy and as with all Noro projects you never really know what you are going to end up with. I love it. A couple of the girls from the Knitting group said I looked Preppy in it and thats fine with me.

Enjoyed the Sex in the City Film last Friday. I organised a night out with the girls where we met has Cosmos a dinner and then went on to see the movie. I thought it was really funny - just perfect for a girls night out. I will have to arrange another soon.

I am waiting for a couple of pics of finished items to be e-mailed to me - these garments have been completed by members of our knitting group and are truly inspiring.

Did I mention that I had joined Weight Watchers - well its working I have lost 12lbs in 6 weeks. I know it doesnt sound amazing but it has made a real difference to me and how my clothes fit.

Only another 16lbs to go!!!! Wish me luck.

Good Weather at last!!

Easter has now come and gone and the weather has taken a turn for the better. My plants are sprouting and the garden looks quite colourful.

It was Ladies Day at Aintree last Friday. No pics available yet. We had a great day. Louise who is 7 months pregnant was a bit dubious about being on her feet all day but in truth she was in better shape than me by the end of the day. I am 6 foot - why do I feel the need to wear high heels?? Not next year - I have already decided what I am going to wear. Actually I am going to knit something..............

We went for a meal after the races and were on the next table to Coleen Rooney - Oh yes rubbing shoulders (well almost) with the WAGS. Sherry Murphy was also there. Honestly I was more impressed that we had a seat!

The good weather has now got me thinking about what I have got on my needles. The Fresian Cow (a Designer Knitting Magazine Pattern - real name - Floral Cardigan) made in Felted Tweed, Louisa Harding Kota Scarf in Merletto, and Cardoon in Rowan Revive. Cardoon should really be finished by now but I have only knitted this at my Knitting group each week. The scarf is something to pick up when I have only got a limited amount of time to knit in the evening and the Floral Cardigan is not really a summer garment.

Soooooo - I need to get something new on the go. The choice this season is overwhelming so I am going to pick my favourites and then get my Knitting friends to give me some advice. My problem - which is probably the same as everybody reading this is that I want to make everything. The weather has definitely been a factor in my choice of favourites. If you fancy making a comment about this blog let me know which project you think I should start.

Almost 12 Months Old

Can you believe it. Knits in the City is coming up for its first Birthday April 1st. Party at the Print House Tuesday 20th April 2010. Let me know if you are coming as I need to provide numbers to Jimmy. Meet at 6.00, eat at 7.00. There will be cake!!!!

Don't forget the clocks go forward tonight and we all loose an hour in bed but the nights are lighter and it really feels like spring is on the way.

Have had a busy time lately. Had to get an outfit for the Grand National. Very understated this year...... No Big Hat and Frock this time. I am going in Black Harem Trs and Top, fancy shoes and boyfriend blazer. Just need some chunky bangles and a necklace and I am set. Hope I don't feel too under dressed........... who me????!!!!*****

Have competed on the horse. Bit of a disaster my legs are too fat for my boots and were giving me bruises (used to fit like a glove) so I had to do the dressage test in my socks. Looked like nobody loved me from the Knees down but we still came 5th. Have got to get new boots and am trying to get the old ones stretched.

New advertisement featured in the knitting press. If anybody has seen it I would love some feedback.

Ohhhh - really exciting. My Knitting Group is featured in this months "The Knitter" issue 17. Haven't seen a copy myself yet but looking forward to getting my paws on it.

So whats new into stock since last time. Mirasol Books really cute one for girls and women (featuring Wachi - 85% pima cotton and 15% silk) and one for boys and men (featuring Lachiwa - 60% pima cotton and 40% linen) Yarns come in the most beautiful shades, very crisp, and both are DK weight with good lengths on the 50g balls.

I have already raved about the New Louisa Harding books and yarns. Aimee has been selling really well - I am still waiting for stock from the US but it is expected soon.

I have a new product coming in soon Patons Batik. It is a one ball scarf - each ball of yarn at 100g makes a great summer scarf - there are 6 Divine shades, knits up on 8mm needles so either perfect as gift in either finished garment or project. The yarn is 80% cotton, 20% polyester - machine washable at 30 degrees. At £5.95/ball I am expecting these to fly out.

Designer Knitting Issue 5 Spring Summer landed on Thursday. I only get a limited stock of this magazine - sells like hot cakes includes 31 yes 31!!!!! patterns - at £4.50 this mag is a must. and it you don't already have the new Debbie Bliss Spring Summer mag why not get them together as you will pay the same postage for both mags when delivered together................

I am still working on my fresian cow project from The Autumn Winter Designer Knitting Magazine. Hopefully I will have pics to show next time I blog.

A good knitting TV programme is on - I can hear it in the background - don't laugh it is the search for Dorothy - I love this stuff - cheesy I know but what the heck we all have our guilty pleasures.

New Louisa Harding Books and Yarns

Trying to keep my promise to blog more often...

Infact cant really keep this to myself as I am so excited..............

The new range of Louisa Harding Booklets arrived mid Feb and have been selling like hot cakes. (Not Little Cake - see what I did there - if not its a bit of an in joke)

The books use the beautiful yarns Mulberry Silk, Merletto and Albero. All of the new shades are in stock.

A new Book - Louisa Harding Chinoiserie is due into stock in the next 2 weeks. This book features two new yarns - Aimee (90% cotton and 10% cashmere) DK weight - 12 gorgeous shades and Fleuris (70% bamboo and 30% wool) Aran weight - 13 shades. I am a real Louisa Harding fan - I love the way her garments are shaped to flatter the figure. I am looking forward to making a couple of things from the book for myself.

I am still working on, what shall always be referred to as the "fresian cow" at the moment - actually only cast on on Wednesday but am half way up the left front. It is turning out well and as it is colourwork (my fave) I am not bored with it at all.

I am however bored with the Revive project I am working on - Cardoon. I know the garment is going to be great when finished and very wearable but it is ribbing and we what can I say its ribbing....Yawn... dozes off at the mere mention of the word. If anybody is having trouble sleeping I recommend making this garment. Really there is only so much Knit 3 Purl 3 anybody can take.

On the other hand if you are a beginner and want to make a nicely shaped cardi - I would also recommend this.

Other yarns which are flying off the shelves at the moment are - Gedifra Barina and Amara. These have been really popular and I am guessing that they will continue to be popular right through the summer.

WOW How long has it been?

wCant believe I havent blogged since before Christmas!!

Seems a bit late to do the "How was your Christmas?" and "Happy New Year" so I will skip it. The reason for the lack of blogs has been the volume of sales and the amount of new stocks coming in.

OK so here is the rundown.

Gedifra Moments 217, 218 and Highlights 101 including 4 new yarns Barina, Jalia, Fiorista Fino and Satata

Debbie Bliss New Additions - Amalfi book and yarn - Eco Baby book and yarn - both lovely additions to the DB Stable. The Eco Baby knits up like Baby Cashmerino so there is fantastic pattern support for this yarn and as you know I like eco yarns!!

I am now stocking the Mirasol range of yarns including two newbies. Lachiwa (60% pima cotton and 40% linen) which is already selling well even without pattern support - the patterns are due in by the end of the month and Wachi (85% pima cotton and 15% silk). Hacho is flying off the shelves. I wasnt sure about this yarn when I saw it on the skein but knitted up it looks fabulous.

Two new Noro Yarns are due in any day now Taiyo and Furin. These yarns are featured in the new publications including Catwalk 2 one of my favourite Noro Books.

I hope you have all seen the articles in the magazines. Knits in the City did the 5 minute interview with Lets Knit and also did Top Knits in the Knitting Magazine recently. The knitting group is going to be featured in The Knitter in issue 17 or 18.

I just have to submit the pics, garments and write up about the members. Keep an eye out for it.

I hadnt had many pics of finished garments and then a couple came through.

Pic 1. is Margaret Whyte (from Ireland) in Miss Marple - Margaret and I did a knit along for this garment made in Louisa Harding Willow Tweed (nice yarn) I think Margaret made a fantastic job of this.

Pic 2. is Annette Harrison (from Staffordshire) in Sixties Jacket in Gedifra Videra. The sleeves on this garment are crochet and I think the look is very effective.

I have just agreed to stock Designer Knitting (was Vogue Knitting) at the request of one of my customers and have got to say I love it. The magazine comes out each quarter and I have just received the winter copy. The pics attached show one of the stories from the mag - Traditional - and I have decided to make the third cardigan in for the Races this year (that it the Grand National to those people who arent local to Liverpool) It is one of the annual girls get togethers and everybody dresses to impress. I usually do a posh frock, high heels and hat but this year I am going to try a Katherine Hepburn look. Will keep you posted on the progress. One of my so called friends recons I will look like a fresian cow in this cardigan - well what can I say - some of us can carry it off and others ............... nuff said.

Wow once I get blogging I can stop!! Didnt make a new years resolution as I dont tend to keep to them. Loosing Weight - HA! Going to the Gym HA HA!! But I am going to try (no promises as I would hate to let you all down) to blog more regularly.
